You will no doubt have seen over recent years all sorts of gaudy advertisements asking whether you have had an accident recently and whether you want to make a claim and so on. They all make very varying claims about how it all works. So maybe this is the right time to get it all completely straight.
Avoiding accident scams
If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an accident you may well find that you immediately become the fevered attention of various people trying to sell you accident compensation recovery services. So how would you choose which to go with?
To this, there is thankfully a very simple answer. Most of the companies that do this are not proper lawyers. They are just companies that sell your business onto a law firm that pays them money for it. That law firm might be very good at handling accident claims or it might not be. The accident company is not terribly bothered about that, they're just interested in receiving a fee from the lawyer for passing on your case.
The accident company will of course assure you that the lawyers that they have allocated to your case are the best, but then again they would say that, wouldn't they? In fact the truth of the matter is they are simply the lawyers that are paying them the most for the referral of your business.
This is also the reason why you will often find that accident companies will pass your business to a lawyer at the far end of the country and you will find it impossible or at least very difficult to ever meet as they handle your claim. This is because most lawyers of the more respectable type do not have anything to do with these accident companies, and therefore sometimes you have to go a long way to see a lawyer who is prepared to pay an accident company.
The simple advice you need to bear in mind is: do not touch an accident advice company with a bargepole. Every high street lawyer in the country will handle your accident claim for you, and indeed such lawyers have been doing it forever, since well before these accident claim companies were even invented.
In short, cut out the middleman and go direct to the lawyer yourself. You will get just the same expertise. You won't have to travel to the far flung corners of the country to get your legal representation. And your claim will be handed just as (if not more) expertly.
